Q: What is biofeedback?
A: Probably our most frequently asked question, for an overview of biofeedback EEG and answers to many of your questions, click on Biofeedback Basics.
Q: How long have you been in practice?
A: For over 20 years, and working in the field for over 30.
Q : How do I know it works?
A: Articles providing proof positive can be found here: International Society for Neurofeedback, Applied Psychophysiology and Biofeedback (AAPB).
Q: What can I expect during my first visit?
A: Your initial assessment may involve some psychological testing and a quantitative EEG for brain-mapping. This helps us identify your specific problem and develop an appropriate training protocol. It usually takes about 1½ hrs.
Q: What's a typical session like?
A: A typical session lasts 45 minutes. Sensors are applied to your skin and scalp to read and record your brain wave activity, during which you may often play some form of video game. The room may be darkened, and some tranquil music or other relaxing aural accompaniment may be used.
Q: How long is the program?
A: Recovery rates vary, depending on the nature of the condition being treated and the person's level of commitment. Some people see results in as few as 10 or 20 sessions; for more serious issues, 30 to 40 may be necessary. Our success rates for those who are willing to go the distance are very high, about 80%.
Q: What does it cost?
A: Rates range between $90 and $150 per session. As a fee-for-service provider, we work with you to charge you fairly while considering both income and insurance.
Q: What are the possible side effects of this type of treatment?
A: None. We have treated thousands of children and adults without incident.
Q: What about insurance coverage?
A: Insurance may cover treatment and we will be happy to assist you in verifying your coverage. Your actual coverage will vary depending on your health care provider. Some require a referral from your primary care physician, others don't. It's best to check with your HMO or insurance carrier first to determine specific levels of coverage before making a decision.
Q: What do I need to know about my coverage?
A: An excellent question. Here's what you need to ask:
How many therapy sessions are covered per calendar year?
Is there a pre-existing condition clause?
Do I have to meet a deductible?
Is pre-certification required?
Is there a co-payment per visit?
How do I submit claims?
The biggest thing that blew me away with the brain map was in a year of doing feedback the hot spots cleared up! AMAZING things happened and we tell everyone how beneficial feedback is.
